2 ‘granthis’ held for sacrilege of ‘bir’ 

Chandigarh/Oct.19, 2015- Punjab police on Monday arrested two ‘granthis’ and a woman for desecrating Sri Guru Granth Sahib. A ‘granthi’ of a gurdwara at Nijjapura village in Amritsar district was arrested for allegedly desecrating the holy book. According to reports police on Sunday night received a call from the granthi of a gurudwara at Nijjarpura that three persons forcibly entered the shrine and tore off the pages of the holy book. SSP Amritsar rural Jasdeep Singh Saini said that the statement of the granthi appeared false following which he was interrogated by police. The granthi Jagdeep Singh, 30, later confessed that he had committed the crime and had tried to mislead police. Ludhian police has arrested two persons, 45-year-old Balwinder Kaur and 46-year-old Sikandar Singh in connection with the Ghawaddi village desecration case. The woman is amritdhari and is a sewadar in the gurdwara.
