A New BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir Inaugurated for the Community in Scarborough, Ontario
The inauguration of a new BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, located at 1840 Birchmount Road in Scarborough, took place on Sunday August 31, 2014.
The celebrations included a three day festival which started with a grand Vishwa Shanti Mahayagna, where more than a thousand families prayed for peace in the world and for the good of the community. Learned Pundits had come from India specially to conduct this auspicious Yagna. On the day before the inauguration ceremony, a colourful Nagar Yatra took place in Scarborough as the murtis (sacred images) to be installed in the new Mandir were taken on a procession to bless the city of Scarborough and its residents.
The inauguration ceremony itself consisted of a Vedic Mahapooja during which the murtis of Bhagwan Shri Swaminarayan, Gunatitanand Swami, Guru Parampara, Shri Radha Krishna, Shri Sita Ram, Shri Hanuman, Shri Shiv Parvati and Shri Ganeshji were installed in the Mandir in the presence of Sadguru Pujya Mahant Swami and Swamis from India and North America.
A colourful heritage program followed, which was presented by the children and youth of Scarborough.
His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj has inspired such small and large mandirs, including the magnificent stone and marble BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (www.toronto.baps.org), near Hwy 427 & Finch Ave. W. in Toronto, to cater to the needs of individuals, families and the community and to inspire all to become noble citizens of the city.
On this auspicious occasion, in a spirit of service to the community, BAPS Charities made a donation of $5,000 to support the life-saving work of the local Scarborough Hospital. The cheque was accepted by the President & CEO of the Scarborough Hospital, Robert Biron, who sincerely appreciated the volunteers of BAPS for raising the funds during their annual Walkathon.
Special Guests over the three day celebration included:

Councillor Vincent Crisanti, Ward 1, Etobicoke North
Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker, Ward 38, Scarborough Centre
