AAP promises two lakh toilets for women in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) Two lakh public toilets for women, new courts to fast-track rape cases and Wi-Fi connected CCTV cameras were some of the promises made by the AAP Wednesday in the second round of its ‘Delhi Dialogue’ programme which focused on women.

Addressing a gathering of over 500 women at Talkatora Garden in the heart of the capital, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal also promised that women would be allowed to pass a resolution to close down liquor vends in their areas.

He said women’s safety and empowerment would be AAP’s priority, and new courts would be opened.

“Forty-seven fast-track courts would be built and made functional and later increased up to 100,” said an AAP source.

The former chief minister also said every DTC bus would have a marshal to stop harassment of women.

In its 10-point agenda for women, which the AAP promised to implement if voted to power, figured the Women’s Security Force to be formed by utilising Delhi’s 12,000-strong New Delhi Home Guards and Civil Defence Force.

Kejriwal also promised a ‘Suraksha Button’ (safety button as a mobile phone app) by pressing of which women in distress would get connected with police.

Two lakh toilets for women will be built – 50,000 in public spaces and 1.5 lakh in slums – the party said in a statement.

Kejriwal also said CCTVs in buses and bus shelters would also be installed to prevent crime against women.
