Act against law officers, Akali MLAs tell Centre
Jalandhar, March 30
Akali MLAs from Doaba representing the SC community have demanded that the law officers of the Centre, who, they say, “failed to represent the case well that led to dilution of the SC/ST Atrocities Act”, be taken to task.MLAs Pawan Tinu (Adampur), Baldev Khaira (Phillaur) and Dr Sukhwinder Sukhi (Banga) said even as Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that the government would file a review petition on the matter, it would not be enough. “This decision of the Supreme Court did not come overnight. We demand from the PM that a probe should be ordered to ascertain if it was all a part of a game plan and that if any political leader too was behind the move,” they said. The MLAs said: “We suspect that there could be some forces which are bent on breaking the faith and unity of the nation. If there are such forces, their confidence will get a boost with such episodes and they could even plan a bigger national-wide disaster.”SAD spokesperson Tinu said the SC leaders of the party would support the April 2 bandh call for protests over the SC orders. “This bandh call is not by any party, but by the members of the community. So, we will support it and appeal to everyone to hold it in a peaceful manner.
