Advance poll turnout up 34 per cent
According to Election Canada, more than 1.6 million people cast ballots in the federal election during the first two days of advance polls, which opened on Friday. This is a 34 per cent increase from the 2011 federal election.
Elections Canada estimates that about 780,000 electors voted on Saturday, bringing the two-day total to 1,642,000.
“This represents a 34 per cent increase over the 1,223,000 electors who voted during the first two days of advance polls at the 2011 federal general election,” Elections Canada said on its website. Advance polls are open on Monday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time.
