Amitabh Bachchan knows no religion, is an Indian first
On the Gandhi Jayanti special episode of game show ‘Kon Banega Crorepati’, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan said he does not belong to any religion. Sharing an anecdote with sociologist Bindeshwar Pathak, he said, “My surname ‘Bachchan’ does not belong to any religion as my father was against it. My surname was Srivastava, but we never believed in it. I feel proud saying that I’m the first person to hold this family name. During my admission to Kindergarten, my father was asked my surname and he decided at that moment that it would be Bachchan. Whenever Census employees come to my place, they ask me about my religion and I always say that I belong to no religion, I am an Indian.”
An inspiration, Bachchan Sr also spoke about his family tradition of celebrating Holi by putting colour on the foot of an elderly.
