Boy targeted in attempted abduction

Toronto/Oct.14,2015-Toronto police are looking for a man who allegedly tried to abduct a nine-year-old boy in a local school on Tuesday.

The student was walking to school in Thorncliffe Park Drive and Overlea Blvd area when a man grabbed him by his shoulder but he was able to break free of the man’s grasp and run. The same man tried to approach him again when he was he left the school during lunch. The boy ran back and told a teacher about the incident.

Toronto District School Board officials said Wednesday that the boy did exactly what all students are encouraged to do in that situation: “tell an adult they trust.”The board said in a statement that once a teacher was made aware of the incident, police were called immediately and other schools in the area were notified. A letter will be going home with parents Wednesday with more information and “street-proofing tips” for students.

Police are now seeking the public’s help in locating the man. The suspect is described as brown, between the ages of 40 and early 50s and about six-feet tall.
