Yudhvir Jaswal, Editor-in-Chief of Y Media informed listeners during his recent show Southasian Pulse that The Consul General of India in Toronto, Akhilesh Mishra recently held a meeting with South Asian Press Club in Mississauga and sketched out his vision to assist community in the best possible way while identifying red lines. He assured media members that issues faced by the community are being resolved on war footing. Consul Mishra firmly mentioned that he will uphold the highest principles of Honesty & Integrity in his office. Jaswal mentioned that Consul Mishra has advised the consulate’s staff to keep a sympathetic eye on applications instead of taking them as just a piece of paper as they also have a human dimension to them. He has instructed his staff to deal with applications in a timely manner. Dr Sharda mentioned that after taking charge Consul Mishra amply proved his ability as a seasoned diplomat and cleared a backlog of 120,000 pending applications that were long overdue. Consul General Mishra further stated rules regarding refugee cases have
not been altered. They remain the same for now with no policy changes. He said for the convenience of those who require urgent visa, a more efficient website has been introduced where emergency requests are processed even on Saturdays and late hours adding the consulate is extending the best services within available resources. Consul Mishra
also gave his own email id: cgindia@cgitoronto.ca saying in case of emergency, he can be contacted directly as he monitors it regularly and avoid applying through any brokers. This direct email has helped many in the time of crisis and the feedback from the community regarding the response on this email is very satisfactory
