Candlelight vigil for Peel police officers
Brampton/Sept.23, 2015- A candlelight vigil in memory of the six police officers killed in the line of duty in recent past is being hold tonight at Peel Police headquarters.
The vigil will start at 7 p.m. at police headquarters on Hurontario Street south of Steeles Avenue, and participants will walk and run approximately six kilometres along the nearby Etobicoke Creek trail.
The funds raised will be donated to the annual Run to Remember. It’s a 460 km relay that starts Thursday at the Ontario Police Memorial in Toronto and ends at the national memorial in Ottawa this Saturday.The national memorial ceremony, attended annually by peace officers from across North America, will take place on Parliament Hill this Sunday.
Five Peel Regional Police officers have been died since the department was created in 1974. Sixth officer, who died in 1966, belongs to Toronto Township Police, which was one of the departments amalgamated into Peel police.
