Brampton/ Oct.9, 2015

Brampton mayor Linda Jeffery’s motion to freeze her salary will now be consider by the city council next week. On Wednesday, she presented the motion to Corporate Services Committee. Last week, the council passed a resolution giving raise to their own salaries.

According to new pay structure, councilors will now be paid $84,495 annually, a car allowance of $14,927, and their pension contributions are increased 94 per cent, from $5,976 to $11,573 annually. Mayor’s salary would rise to $113,374 from $112,307 under the new pay structure.

Mayor Linda Jeffery won the elections last year on a platform that included a promise to cut the mayor’s salary. To keep the promise, she reduced her wages by $50,000 in December and now she has proposed another reduction of $30,000.
