Clueless on jobs, 220 given certificates
Patiala, November 29
Nearly 220 youths, 10 each from every district, were given job certificates at the third mega rozgar mela held in presence of Cabinet ministers on the Punjabi University campus on Thursday.
While the certificates mentioned a congratulatory message, many beneficiaries have no clue about their selection for particular jobs and other details. Besides, a number of aspirants returned disappointed as no recruitment was held.
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh could not come as he was unwell. The certificates were distributed by ministers Brahm Mohindra, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Charanjit Singh Channi and Razia Sultana.
The certificates mentioned the name of job fair, the slogan “Ghar Ghar rozgar”, a congratulatory message along with the name and district of the beneficiary.
When questioned about lack of clarity among a number of candidates, Channi said over 18,672 candidates had been given certificates and they would join jobs in a matter of days. He said another 16,000 had been shortlisted who would be hired by various companies after their skill development training.
“Those lacking clarity could be the ones who require skill development training before they are appointed. Companies are continuously holding interviews. We are making sure that all candidates get a competitive edge. They will be given training in their respective fields and hired accordingly.”
A beneficiary, Tejinderpal Singh, who holds a bachelor’s degree and came from Tarn Taran, had no clue about his recruitment. He said: “We received a call and were told that we have to go to Patiala to collect our job certificates. But we are unaware what kind of job we have been selected for. I had applied in two companies. I have been given a blank certificate.”
An aspirant from Amritsar said: “For last one week, we have been told that we should go to Patiala for recruitment, but no official of any company was present here.”
Meanwhile, some newly appointed lecturers and junior engineers also participated in the job fair.
