CM allocates Rs1,000 cr more for debt waiver

Chandigarh, February 7

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday enhanced the allocation of funds to the state government’s farm loan debt waiver to Rs 5,500 crores, while chairing the 45th meeting of the state Rural Development Board. The earlier amount was Rs 4,500 crore.

An official press release said the CM directed the Secretary, Mandi Board, to expedite the ongoing project of repairing rural link roads for ensuring its time-bound completion. The secretary said a comprehensive road repair programme had been drawn up, under which the first phase of around 15,000 km of repair was under implementation and would be completed by June. The phase II of project had also been initiated to repair another 15,000 km of rural roads, for which the tendering process had been started and work would be allotted by February, with completion scheduled for June next year. — TNS

It’s a scam: Khaira

Chandigarh: The loan waiver scheme of the Congress had failed to bail out a majority of marginal farmers who were on the edge and influential farmers hijacked the scheme grabbing most of the public money meant for poor, said chief of Punjabi Ekta Party Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a press note here on Thursday. Demanding a judicial probe and special audit into the loan waiver scam, Khaira said the scheme was now turning out to be a big financial scam as was indicated in the internal audit report of the scheme at the end of the third phase.
