CM approves memorial at Bassi Pathana prison
Fatehgarh Sahib: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has directed the Director of the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department to submit a proposal for the development of a memorial in Bassi Pathana’s Sub-Jail, where Guru Teg Bahadur was imprisoned.
Guru Teg Bahadur was the ninth Sikh guru and was believed to have been confined in the sub-jail for three months on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
Head Granthi of Fatehgarh Sahib Gurdwara Bhai Harpal Singh, SGPC member Karnail Singh Panjoli and Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra thanked Capt Amarinder for promptly responding to the charter of demands presented to him during his visit to the gurdwara yesterday.
An official spokesman said the Chief Minister also directed the PWD secretary to work out detailed proposals and estimates at the earliest to implement the strengthening and widening of roads within 10-km radius of Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib and beautification of the road from Baba Moti Ram Mehra Gate (near Talanian) to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Gate.
The CM also sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the completion of the ongoing development works on Sahadat-e-Safar Road, including its widening and strengthening from historic Gurdwara Kuma Maski up to the Ropar headworks, besides construction of four bridges over it in Ropar district.
The Chief Minister was apprised in the meeting that funds to the tune of Rs 6.69 crore had been released so far and the balance of Rs 5 crore would be released soon to ensure timely implementation of these development projects to facilitate the devotees.
