INSPIRATIONAL STEPS– MAY 18th, 2014
“Inspirational Steps” is a run/walk challenge for individuals to become active, have a fun experience and bring together the community to celebrate those who have and continue to inspire us to take steps in all aspects of our lives. Last year, we had over 250 participants take part and the World’s Oldest Marathoner Fauja Singh (from the “Sikhs in the City” running club UK) was present to inaugurate the event and award participants for their efforts. This year, our special guest is his coach from “Sikhs in the City”, Harmander Singh who will be present to take part in his 84th Marathon. Harmander is an inspiration to us all as he has motivated and taught us all the importance of running. Additionally, the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport) will be present and participating this year.
The event will take place this Sunday May 18th. It will be a run/walk challenge with distances of 5km, 12km, a Half-Marathon (21.1km), a Marathon (42.2km), or any other distance between these limits. The event will start from Dixie Gurdwara (7080 Dixie Rd., Mississauga) at 8:00am and will take place along sidewalks and boulevards all the way to Scarborough Gurdwara, the total distance will be just over a marathon distance. The event is for first timers who have never run but are prepared to walk, for all ages (children, parents, grandparents) as well as runners. There will be several finishing points along the route: Malton Gurdwara for the 5km; Rexdale Gurdwara for the 12km, and those doing the 21.1km will be taken to Ramgarhia Gurdwara. Full event details, rules, route, logistics etc. can be seen on our website www.ggscf.com and the attached poster. The community is strongly encouraged to attend and support participants along the route or at the multiple finishing points.
