Cong wins senior VP post of Sunam NC
Sangrur, January 14
Congress candidate Komal Kansal has been elected the senior vice-president of the Sunam Nagar Council (NC).
Daman Thind Bajwa, spokesperson for the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), on Monday said,” With the support of all councillors, Komal Kansal has been elected the senior vice-president. Another Independent councillor, Naseeb Kaur, also joined the party today and was elected the vice-president.”
SDM, Sunam, Manjit Kaur said all 23 councillors gave their consent for both candidates and there was no opposition to it during a meeting held in the morning.
The posts of senior vice-president and vice-president had been vacant since April 2017 as councillors were earlier unwilling to recommend the name of a Congress candidate for the senior vice-president post.
There are a total of 23 councillors in the Sunam NC. In the elections in February 2015, two had won on Congress ticket, two on the BJP and three on SAD ticket. The remaining were independents.
The financial powers of SAD-supported NC president Bhagirath Rai Goyal were withdrawn in August 2018 after some controversy. All development works in the area had come to a halt in the last two years.
Komal said,” I will work hard for the development of the city.”
Bhagirath Goyal urged the state government to reinstate his financial powers so that he could also help in bringing development to Sunam city.
AAP MLA from Sunam Aman Arora expressed hope that necessary development works would be carried out in the area.
