Cops suspect insider’s role in double murder
Amritsar: Even as there is no concrete headway in Tuesday’s double murder case of a woman and her daughter, the police “strongly” suspect the role of an insider. They are likely to question a political leader and a sarpanch who allegedly had relations with deceased Gagan Verma (45), who was a clerk at a government school in Jandiala Guru.Meanwhile, a medical board conducted the post-mortem examination of Gagan and her daughter Shivnaini’s bodies at Government Medical College here. The bodies were later handed over to their relatives. Gagan’s son Ridham Verma, who is studying in Canada, could not reach Amritsar.Sources said the police were looking into the call details as they suspected the role of somebody who was known to the deceased. “There was no forcible entry into the house and their pet dog also did not raise any alarm,” said a source. While scrutinising the call details, the police zeroed in on two numbers from which victim Gagan had received many calls. The numbers reportedly belong to a political leader and a sarpanch, who is at present in the US. However, police officials said they could not say anything with certainty as the investigation was underway.Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City-1) JS Walia said they were yet to get the autopsy reports. He said a chemical examination would determine if there was any sexual assault before the murders. The duo were found murdered at their residence in Darshan Avenue near Golden Gate in Amritsar in the early hours of Tuesday. Before fleeing, the killers put the house on fire in a bid to burn the bodies. The matter came to light when a neighbour called the fire brigade.
