COUNCILLOR GURPREET DHILLON ANNOUNCES 2018 REGIONAL COUNCIL ELECTION BID

BRAMPTON, ON – On Sunday, November 5th, Brampton City Councillor Gurpreet Dhillon officially announced his candidacy for Regional Councillor for Wards 9 & 10 at Jot Prakash Gurdwara on Sun Pac Blvd.

In his remarks, Councillor Dhillon cited his job creation advocacy in his first term, specifically his 2016 motion to increase employment lands, and the city’s jobs numbers by up to 25,000 as one his achieved campaign promises. Councillor Dhillon was also a member of Blue Ribbon Panel that helped attract the new university.

“In 2014 I promised the voters of my wards that I would champion change at city hall. Residents of Brampton had spoken loud and clear about the need for new leadership, increasing job opportunities, and to attract a university to our city,” said Councillor Dhillon.

“Results matter. Together we have achieved a great deal in implementing change, though there is much more to be done to ensure that Brampton, and the issues that affect our residents most, are addressed at the regional level as well.”

Councillor John Sprovieri, the current sitting Regional Councillor also spoke, stating he would be stepping down from the Region as of next term and will support Councillor Dhillon’s bid.

Other speakers included Mayor Linda Jeffrey, MP Raj Grewal, MP Ruby Sahota, Toronto School Trustee Avtar Minhas and Brampton-Centre NDP Candidate Sara Singh on behalf of NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, while MP Bob Saroya, MP Sonia Sidhu, MP Ramesh Sangha, MP Kamal Khera, City Councillor Pat Fortini, Regional Councillor Martin Medeiros, and Peel School Trustee Harkirat Singh also attended. Numerous provincial nominees and candidates were also in attendance.

“The tremendous support from all three parties, and all levels of government who gave their support today shows the unity we have achieved, and I will continue to work with them to ensure we build a more prosperous Brampton.”
