Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide
MUKTSAR: A 45-year-old farmer of Bhangchari village in the Malout Assembly constituency allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Arniwala minor on Tuesday night. The body of Nirmal Singh was found from the minor on Wednesday. The police after starting inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC handed over the body to the bereaved family. Sources said the deceased owned four acre agricultural land, but he had been getting lesser yield for the past few years. “He had taken loans from bank and a commission agent that had reached Rs 12 lakh. Thus, he was under depression. On Tuesday night, he went out on a motorcycle and jumped into the minor,” sources said.
