Delhi court reserves order on closure report in 1984 riots case

New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) A Delhi court on Friday reserved its order on a closure report filed by the CBI in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler fixed November 17 for deciding whether to accept or reject the closure report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Senior advocate H.S. Phoolka, appearing for victim/complainant Lakhvinder Kaur whose husband Badal Singh was killed during the riots, had said the court should not accept the closure report in view of the seriousness of the offence.

Phoolka said the CBI’s investigation was “faulty, tainted, dishonest and perfunctory”.

Lakhvinder Kaur filed the petition against the CBI closure report – its third – giving a clean chit to Tytler in the anti-Sikh violence.

Earlier, the central agency gave a clean chit to the Congress leader twice. In April 2013, a sessions court rejected the closure report and ordered the agency to further investigate the killing.

The CBI filed another closure report on December 24, 2014, saying there was not sufficient evidence to proceed against Tytler.
