DEO seeks list of schools with single or no teacher

Amritsar, September 3

The education authorities here have asked all heads of government schools in the district to submit list of schools with single or no teacher to the DEO office till Tuesday after The Tribune reported about the state of affairs in schools with single teacher in these columns on September 3.

Salwinder Singh Samra, DEO, Secondary Education, has asked headmasters, principals and cluster incharges of the district to send the list of all schools under their jurisdiction having single teacher or no teacher. “I have written to all school heads, principals and cluster incharges to compile a list and send it on the official e-mail ID of the district education authorities,” he said.

“We are quite serious about the education of children. Meanwhile, a temporary adjustment is being made so that their studies are not disturbed,” he added.

The Tribune in its report had highlighted the problems of Government Middle School, Sarang Dev, and Government Middle School, Sheikh Bhatti, which are being managed by a single and an adjusted teacher, respectively.

There is just one teacher for 294 students at Sarang Dev and no teacher for 169 students at Government Middle School, Sheikh Bhatti. However, one teacher has been adjusted by the District Education Department.
