Grewal lashes out at PDA’s Bains over toll plaza, mill
Ludhiana, April 29
The SAD-BJP candidate from Ludhiana, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, today raised questions over People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate Simarjit Singh Bains owning a toll plaza and a sugar mill. Addressing a series of public meetings in the city and adjoining villages, he said Bains, in his election affidavit, had stated that he owned a toll plaza and sugar mill. “People of Ludhiana would like to know the source of his income that enabled him to own a mill worth crores,” he said.
Accusing his rival of attempts to bully toll plaza managers at Ladhowal to “befool the people while he was doing the same elsewhere,” he raised questions on his honesty, claiming the voters had now seen his “real face.” The Akali leader also criticised Congress candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu and Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, charging them with facilitating cheap rice from Bihar and selling the same in Punjab at higher rates.
“The scandal runs into hundreds of crores,” he alleged, claiming that Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh too was in the know of things and may initiate action after the elections. “For such misdemeanours, both Bittu and Ashu should be held accountable.”
Grewal also claimed that because of cheap rice from Bihar, the total quantity of paddy sold in the mandis was much higher than the actual production. “This was the reason why the Modi government decided to transfer cash assistance directly into the accounts of farmers and they have been regularly receiving the same without any obstacle,” he told the crowds.People of Ludhiana would like to know the source of his income that enabled him to own a mill worth crores.
