Guv, CM recall Vinod as legendary film star
Pathankot: In a rare show of solidarity, the otherwise faction-ridden BJP of Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts stood up in unison to pay tributes to four-time MP Vinod Khanna on his first death anniversary even as Governor VP Singh Badnore termed the film star as the “only legend of Hindi cinema”.All former and present party MLAs from Gurdaspur and Pathankot attended the two-hour-long PowerPoint presentation of his works culled from various hit films. The programme was organised by his wife Kavita Khanna, who had roped in Mumbai based artistes.Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who was also scheduled to attend the event, did not turn up and instead sent a message which was read out by Deputy Commissioner Neelima. In his message, the CM recalled his association with Vinod Khanna, saying that what struck him during his meetings with the film star in parliament was his overpowering personality. “Despite being one of the tallest stars in the film industry, his connect with his colleagues and voters in Gurdaspur was remarkable. In politics, he gave back to the people the love they showered on him as a film star. We continue to miss him,” said the CM.In his speech, the Governor recalled his association with the film star. “Both of us were elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1998. We were backbenchers. One day I asked Vinod why was he so keen on taking a seat in the last row when everybody wanted to be seen in the front row, he casually replied that he had enough of fame and stardom and hence, preferred the back row where he could understand the working of the parliament in peace and in a better way,” he said. State BJP president Shwait Malik and IG (Border) Surinder Pal Singh Parmar were present.
