High Court seeks evidence from a witness in Beant Singh case
Chandigarh/Nov.6,2015- In an interesting twist to Beant Singh assassination case, Punjab and Haryana High court has directed to a ‘witness’ in the case to provide evidence of his help to get his reward money for his role in providing leads in the case. CBI submitted to the court that there are many claimants for the reward money for sharing information in the case. The court has directed a ‘prime witness’ Balwinder Singh to provide his response on next hearing on December 5, to provide detailed response for asking Rs 10 lakh reward money. He filed a petition in the high court saying that his cues helped the police to find the accused and but after 18 years he yet to get the reward money.
Punjab’s former CM Beant Singh was killed on August 31, 1995, outside Punjab’s civil secretariat in Chandigarh. Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh Rajoana were awarded death sentence in the case and two other accused Shamsher Singh and Gurmeet Singh got life sentence. The court awarded 10-year imprisonment to Lakhwinder Singh and Nasib Singh.
