I support Khaira, media should not spread false rumours: Himmat Shergill

Midweek Exclusive

Mississauga – I have said if I was in same situation as Majithia I would have resigned but Khaira’s situation is different as his case will be decided in a few days by High Court and surely as Khaira has a strong  case  legally, he will win in High Court. This was stated by AAP leader Himmat Singh Shergill during an exclusive interview on Southasian PULSE radio show with Yudhvir Jaswal, Group Editor and CEO of Y Media. He was talking in context of the Punjab and Haryana High Court decision that stayed the non-bailable warrant issued by Fazilka’s trial court against AAP MLA and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

Shergill informed even Khaira has said if the court decides against him, he will step down from politics. Shergill said the media distorted his speech so he placed a complaint with that TV channel that later removed statements wrongly attributed to him after he clarified his stance to them. Shergill said he knows Khaira’s family from childhood, since the 1980s and has seen Khaira always working very closely with people. He said Khaira is a very respectable politician and he will always stand by him. Even when Khaira was in Congress, several cases were filed against him but later dismissed by the court as they did not have any legal standing.

According to Shergill Khaira’s son is a prominent lawyer who had filed a petition against the case filed against him. So what he told that TV channel was, to wait for the court’s decision but his words were twisted. The final hearing of the case was held today. Shergill said he in fact offered legal help to Khaira.

He also said most of the AAP MLAs are honest people and belong to the ordinary strata of society. So the party respects people with clean slates. Shergill was of the view that strict action be taken against those running the drug racket as it is not only destroying Punjab but the country at large.
