Indo Canadian Golf Association donates $20000 to Trillium Health Foundation
Toronto-The 18th annual charity golf tournament of the Indo-Canadian Golf Association was held on May 20, at the Country Club (Board of Trade) Golf Course. The day saw prominent golfers from GTA as well as from USA, India, UK, BC, Niagara Falls and Ottawa making up the 1176-strong participation in the tournament, seedlings for which as usual were sold out. The team of Jassi Singh ( Pappu), Hary Singh, Gurbax Ravi and Kulwant Uppal lifted the coveted trophy. Mr. Imitiaz Syeid of Royal Bank and Sukh Dhaliwal were the winners of Closest to the PIN competition.. Mr. Ashmit Patel was on the top in Logest Drive. This year runners up are Gurdip Dhillon, Gurbir Dhillon, Charanjit Sekhon and Kamaljit Gill.
This year’s tournament was dedicated to Ajmer Sidhu, who passed away in 204 at the age of 61, He was a great Kabadi Player and founder member of Metro Punjabi Sports Club. He was also a dedicated supporter of Guru Gobind Singh”s Children Foundation.
“The Indo-Canadian Golf Association (ICGA) was founded by a handful of Indo-Canadian golfers in 1996 to promote golf within the community and to raise funds for various Canadian charities. From a mere 50 golfers in the first tournament in ’96, the tournament has grown with the support of the community and has been a sell-out every subsequent year, Gian Paul, President ICGA said.
“The ICGA,” Paul says, “has supported various local hospitals, as well as poor and needy families. Donations have also been made to various charitable bodies including Peel Memorial Hospital, Eye Foundation of Canada, Hospital for Sick Children, World Vision and the Credit Valley Hospital. Last year $21000 was donated to The Hospital for Sick Children. . This year $20000 will be donated to Trillium Health Foundation and to the Homeless people of GTA.
