IWL: Gokulam crush champs RSC 5-0
Ludhiana, May 5
A hat-trick by Manisha helped Gokulam Kerala FC stun the current champions, Rising Student Club (Orissa), 5-0 on the first day of the 3rd Indian Women’s League at the Guru Nanak Stadium here. It was Gokulam all the way as they got off the blocks early and took the lead in the 27th minute when Dalima put a through-ball to Sanju, who calmly put it into the goal.
Just seven minutes later, Manisha powered her way into the RSC box despite being constantly under pressure from a defender, and fired the ball past the goalkeeper to put Gokulam 2-0 up.
Shortly before the halftime break, Gokulam netted their third goal, and it was yet another India international, Anju Tamang, who scored this time. Manisha pumped in two more goals, in the 72nd and 78th minutes, to complete the rout.
In another match, FC Alakhpura of Haryana prevailed over Hans Women FC 1-0. The all-important goal came through India U-18 international Samiksha in the 17th minute. Despite the incessant attacks by Alakhpura, which were mostly orchestrated by Samiksha, Hans FC defenders managed to keep the deficit to only one goal and Alakhpura wrapped it up by solitary goal.
