Jaitley calls Cong ‘national saboteur’ over IL&FS mess
New Delhi, October 1
As the Congress intensified its attack on the government’s proposed bailout of the indebted IL&FS, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley lashed out at the party, calling it a “national saboteur”.
In a Facebook post, Jaitley made public a September 20 letter written by former minister and senior Congress MP KV Thomas to him urging investments in Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS).
“A senior Congress leader, Prof KV Thomas, who is a former Union Minister and has been the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, has written to me on September 20, 2018 making a request to enable investments in IL&FS…. it demolishes every word that Rahul Gandhi and his coterie has been spreading. It may be advisable for Rahul Gandhi to get some ‘words of wisdom’ from Prof KV Thomas… the NDA government deals with such challenges objectively and
professionally,” Jaitley said in his Facebook post, hours after Congress media head Randeep Surjewala again questioned the government’s moves to help IL&FS by asking LIC and SBI to bail out the indebted private firm.
“An MP’s a letter is not the law of land for FM to follow. Proves the desperation on FM’s part to cover up Government’s thievery (sic),” Surjewala tweeted.
