Jalalabad, Badal civil hospitals back with Faridkot university
Fazilka, November 29
The Health and Family Welfare Department has handed back the reigns of the Civil Hospital, Jalalabad, and Civil Hospital, Badal, to the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot.
In a letter dated November 28 addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, the Under Secretary, Health Department, said the university was running the civil hospitals of Badal and Jalalabad. However, some time ago, the hospitals were transferred to the Health Department.
“The BFUHS is in a better position to run these two hospitals. Thus the hospitals were handed over to it,” reads the letter, a copy of which is with The Tribune.
Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, confirmed that he had received the letter and said doctors would be deputed there soon.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee’s Intellectual Cell president Anish Sidana, who spearheaded the campaign of posting specialist doctors in Jalalabad hospital, hailed the decision.
During the previous SAD-BJP government, the BFUHS was assigned the job to run both the hospitals which fall in the Jalalabad and Badal areas due to shortage of specialist doctors. Badal Civil hospital falls in the Lambi Assembly constituency represented by former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the Jalalabad constituency is represented by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
After taking the charge of Jalalabad hospital about four months ago, the Health Department failed to depute even a single specialist doctor there.
