Khalsa Diwan ex-president files Rs10-cr defamation suit against current chief
Amritsar: Charanjit Singh Chadha, former president of the Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD), has filed a Rs 10-crore criminal defamation against existing chief Nirmal Singh.
Nirmal alleged that Charanjit was involved in embezzling a whopping amount of Rs 60 crore in the purchase of books for the CKD-run schools during his tenure.
Addressing mediapersons, Chadha said such allegations had tarnished his image so he filed two cases against Nirmal Singh. “I have filed criminal proceedings against Nirmal Singh. The date of hearing has been fixed for the CKD.”
A CKD committee, under signatures of Nirmal, had written to the Akal Takht demanding Chadha to be pronounced ‘tankhiah’ (religious punishment) for deceiving the Sikh community as 90 per cent students studying in the CKD institutes belonged to Sikh families.
