Left party holds dharna against police ‘atrocities’

Tarn Taran: Workers of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) organised a dharna in front of the police station at Goindwal Sahib, 25 km from here, today in protest against police “atrocities” and other issues. The dharna was lifted after DSP (Headquarters) Prahalad Singh invited a delegation of the organisation to come to his office for discussing the issues.Addressing the gathering, Pargat Singh Jamarai, state leader of the party, condemned the police for unleashing vendetta by booking party workers for having anti-establishment views.Jamarai alleged that the police had failed to check the drug menace. He said the law and order situation in the state had gone from bad to worse as murders, snatchings, robberies, rapes and thefts had become commonplace.Passing a resolution, the party slammed the police for becoming a tool in the hands of the ruling Congress.
