Let growers decide schedule: Harsimrat
Sangrur: Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Monday backed farmers who have begun sowing paddy. She advised the state government not to impose any restrictions on them to hide its “failure” in providing the required electricity.“Punjab farmers know when to sow paddy. The government does not have the right to force them to delay sowing till June 20. We made the state power-surplus, but during the first year of the Congress, the state is facing power shortage,” the Union Minister alleged. She accused the government of driving farmers to commit suicide by threatening to register cases against them if they sow paddy before June 20 and by denying them a complete debt waiver.“Farmers are already reeling under a huge debt. The government is only multiplying their problems,” the minister said, adding that the farmers should protest against the government’s policies and expose its “anti-farmer” face.Meanwhile, demanding a 16-hour power supply, BKU Ugrahan leaders on Monday protested in front of PSPCL offices in the district.
