Manan Gupta Emerging as a strong Candidate from Brampton Wards 7 & 8
The municipal election campaigns are in full swing all across GTA with final voting scheduled for Monday October 27th. The elections this year are poised to elect a variety of passionate and deserving candidates from many hotly contested races. One of those race is the City Councillor position in Wards 7 & 8 in Brampton which has become vacant due to the retirement of Councillor Sandra Hames after serving the community for over 24 years. .
With 13 candidates on the ballot the race is very interesting. It appears that the campaign efforts of long time community activist and safety ambassador Manan Gupta have been very positively received by the constituents. Apart from winning the support of retiring Councillor Sandra Hames, MP Parm Gill and MPP Harinder Takhar, Manan has also received a big campaign boost in the form of major endorsements from Canadian Labour Congress, Peel Regional Labour Council, Punjabi Broadcasters Association of Ontario, South Asian Press Club and prominent Senior’s Clubs.
Manan Gupta is a long time resident of Brampton where he lives with his wife Puja and their daughters Saanvi & Kaashvi. Although a busy small business owner, he makes time and contributes to community safety each and every day. He gets involved in safety committees, promote safety in his award winning publications, radio/TV programs, and volunteers for numerous community initiatives, safety campaigns and events. Some of the organisations he is actively involved include Brampton Safe City, Brampton Road Safety Committee, Brampton Board of Trade Diversity & Inclusion Committee, William Osler Health Foundation Holi Gala, Automotive Transportation Service Superintendents’ Association (ATSSA), Canadian Fleet Maintenance Seminar (CFMS), Road Connections Safety Group, Safety Drives Us, Traffic Safety Coalition amongst others. Manan also supports and volunteers for St. John Ambulance Peel (Operation Red Nose), Seva Food Bank, C-SASIL, Peel Police Race Against Racism, Convoy for a Cure (Breast Cancer), Drugs Awareness Society of Toronto to name a few.
Manan has received numerous awards for his meritorious community service including Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration Volunteer Service Award, Ministry of Transportation Media Excellence Award, CN Railways All Aboard for Safety Award, Peel Police Best Ethnic News Award (4 times), City of Brampton Volunteer Appreciation Award and Volunteer of the Year Award from Brampton Safe City amongst others.
Speaking exclusively with Midweek, Manan Gupta outlined his priorities including bringing back people’s trust, accountability, fiscal responsibility and transparency, full value for tax dollars, eliminating wasteful expenditure, improved transit with reduced gridlock (LRT, full day GO), effective goods movement strategies, boost economy with creation of local sustainable jobs, reducing poverty and homelessness, establishment of University, better health care, managing all inclusive growth while raising the profile of Brampton to attract business investment nationally and internationally.
Manan is committed to work with City Staff to provide excellent programs and municipal services to the community including affordable recreation programs & facilities (especially for Seniors), well maintained parks, trails and recreation centres. He will also advocate for enhanced citizen engagement with a focus on youth and more inclusive hiring practices to reflect the diversity of Brampton.
