Myopic allegations won’t divert poll agenda: Cong on Rahul’s citizenship row
New Delhi, April 30
The Congress on Tuesday said the Home Ministry’s notice on alleged dual citizenship of party president Rahul Gandhi was a political gimmick which would not cut any ice anymore.
Congress media head Randeep Surjewala said the allegation of dual citizenship on Gandhi had been dismissed by the Supreme Court through an order on November 30, 2015.
“Is the Home Ministry above the Supreme Court? This myopic, petty and malicious attempt of the BJP to divert attention from the election issues will not work at all.”
The Congress released documents related to a company directorship in the UK dated 2003 which mention Gandhi as an Indian citizen.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in his complaint to the government has said that Gandhi holds dual citizenship, British and Indian.
The Congress, however, said the Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha also didn’t give any orders in Gandhi’s alleged dual citizenship matter which was pending before it because there was no evidence to support the claim.
“The BJP is anxious and is using all tricks to malign Rahul Gandhi,” Surjewala said.
