Naidu releases coin to mark Guru Nanak anniv
New Delhi, June 27
Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu released a commemorative coin dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev here on Thursday.
Addressing the occasion, Naidu said Guru Nanak was the first preacher who had advocated equality among all and taught the people that God was one. He said his teachings were shaping the world even today and the slogan given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishvas’ had originated from the teachings of Guru Nanak.
He said what the first Sikh Guru taught to the world 550 years ago was the guiding light for the world, especially India, which followed the principle of equality among all.
The Vice-President said Sikhism was a great religion and members ofthe community were always at the forefront to organise relief campsand langars (community kitchen) whenever there was any natural calamity or man-made disaster in any place of the world.
He said Guru Nanak had raised his voice for giving respect to women when the society was full of superstitions. Naidu said the Guru’s teachings of “Naam Japo, Kirat Karo and Wand Chhako” (recite name of god, work hard with hands and share with all) were today more relevant for the society, which was witnessing a huge change.
He said Guru Nanak taught the democratic values to man and advocated freedom for everyone to adopt and preach religion of one’s own choice.
