Nurses protest ‘misbehaviour’ by doctor at Sangrur hospital

Alleging misbehaviour by a doctor, nurses at the Civil Hospital here protested on Wednesday and announced to intensify their agitation if the authorities failed to take action. After getting information, Civil Surgeon reached the hospital and pacified the protesters.“Dr Mandeep Singh misbehaved with me in the emergency in front of other staff on Tuesday night,” said Bhawna, a staff nurse at the Sangrur Civil Hospital.Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh came and pacified the nurses.“Dr Mandeep often misbehaves with nurses. Some nurses have even alleged that many a time he is under the influence of drugs. Earlier also we had informed our seniors, but still there is no action,” said Baljit Kaur, another nurse.Denying allegations, Dr Mandeep said nurse Bhawna had not administered a painkiller injection to a minor burn patient on Tuesday night and when he asked her, she got irritated.Dr Mandeep is posted at the Moonak hospital, but due to shortage of doctors, he comes to the Sangrur Civil Hospital on deputation as an Emergency Medical Officer for three days a week.“I have cancelled the deputation of Dr Mandeep to Sangrur and will direct a woman doctor for a detailed inquiry of the incident,” said Dr Manjit Singh.
