PIO Card scheme providing for lifelong validity and exemption from police registration.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to the US had made an announcement regarding the amendment of the PIO Card scheme providing for lifelong validity and exemption from police registration.

We are glad to inform that the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has issued a notification No.25024/9/2014-F.I dated 30 September 2014 for this purpose.  As per the notification, a PIO Card issued to an applicant shall be valid for his life time from the date of its issue provided that such applicant has a valid passport.  A PIO Card which has been issued prior to the date of publication of this notification shall be deemed to be valid for life time of its holder subject to the condition that such person has a valid passport.           Following the notification, PIOs will be exempt from police registration if their stay on a single visit exceeds 180 days.
