William Osler Health System (Osler) is deeply grateful to Brampton City Council for passing yesterday’s motion in favour of increasing the City of Brampton’s financial contribution to Osler redevelopment projects in Brampton – for a total of $125M. This includes the $62.5M commitment made by Council in late 2021.
Pending ratification next week, this unprecedented support from Brampton City Council represents another exciting milestone in the transformation of Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial) and in the development of the proposed cancer care centre at Brampton Civic Hospital.
“In the months ahead, Osler looks forward to further engagement with local Council and with Brampton residents as plans for the new Peel Memorial Hospital advance,” said Geoffrey Ritchie, Chair, William Osler Health System Board of Directors. “The future is bright for Osler and we are grateful to Brampton City Council, Osler Foundation, and our community for their support in transforming Peel Memorial into Brampton’s new hospital. We look forward to continued work with the provincial government on plans for
the proposed cancer care centre, increased bed capacity at Osler’s Brampton Civic Hospital, and continued efforts towards an eventual third hospital in Brampton.”
The transformation of Peel Memorial will include a new multi-storey patient tower with 250 inpatient beds and space to grow by nearly 100 more, new and enhanced outpatient services and day programs, and the expansion of the existing Urgent Care Centre to 24/7 operations later this year – setting the stage for a second full Emergency Department in Brampton. The proposed new state-of-the-art cancer care centre at Brampton Civic Hospital will address the growing need for cancer care in the community and will bring
cancer care services closer to home for patients and families in Brampton and the surrounding region.
