Panels formed to receive claims for farm debt waiver
Muktsar: Following the release of lists of eligible farmers for debt relief, the district administration has formed village and sub-division level committees to receive claims and objections from farmers.Talking to The Tribune, Rajpal Singh, ADC (General), Muktsar, said: “We have already received nearly 300 applications. We will ensure that not a single farmer fulfilling the conditions will be deprived of the benefit.”He said: “The confusion has arisen because only the beneficiaries of cooperative banks have been named. We are getting applications from farmers having accounts in other banks.”The ADC said this was the first phase of the debt waiver and the remaining eligible farmers would be covered in the next two phases. “Even if any eligible farmer could not get the benefit in the three phases, the DC can provide him the relief later. So there is nothing to get panicky and the farmers should not create more confusion. They can come to meet us or file their claim,” he said. The lists of farmers eligible for debt waiver in the first phase were displayed on Saturday in a majority of the villages following which a controversy erupted over missing names. Farmers unions had claimed that the lists were incorrect and some ineligible and big landlords were included whereas names of genuine farmers were missing. They had also announced to launch a stir if the administration did not take corrective measures.
