Peel Regional Police Officer Facing Criminal Charges
Peel – Cst. Douglas Poirier was arrested earlier this morning by investigators from Peel Regional Police Internal Affairs and has been charged with one count of Breach of Recognizance.
The arrest comes after the officer, who had been suspended as a result of a previous incident, breached the conditions of his recognizance on October 27th, when he engaged in a verbal argument with a woman in a parking lot in the City of Brampton.
In the previous incident, Cst. Poirier was charged with one count of assault as a result of a domestic related occurrence. He was placed on a recognizance of bail with several conditions, one of which was to have no contact with the victim.
At that time, Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans ordered that an Internal Affairs investigation be conducted and the officer was immediately suspended.
He remains on suspension and has been transported to A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse for a bail hearing.
Chief Jennifer Evans has stated, “Conduct of this nature is not tolerated by the Peel Regional Police and any officer who engages in this behavior will be investigated and charged appropriately.”
