PRIME MINISTER STEPHEN HARPER MEETS WITH THE PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA NARENDRA MODI
On the margins of the G-20 Summit in Brisbane, Prime Minister Harper met for the first time with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Modi took time to express his condolences for the recent attacks in Ottawa and St-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, including the extensive people-to-people ties between Canada and India. The leaders reviewed progress on the economic front and identified significant opportunities for the two countries to expand trade and investment across a range of sectors. The prime ministers underscored the importance of cooperating in multilateral fora, placing particular emphasis on their ongoing collaboration as co-chairs of the Framework Working Group in the G-20.
The leaders also discussed security issues and the importance of dialogue and collaboration on national security matters, including counter-terrorism.
Prime Minister Harper reiterated his invitation for Prime Minister Modi to visit Canada at the earliest opportunity.
