Protest in front of Akal Takht office by panthic groups
In a curious move by some panthic groups, a protest rally was organized in front of Akal Takhat office in Amritsar on Monday. The groups were demanding removal of five Jathedars for exonerating Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh. The protesting groups are accusing Jathedars of taking the controversial decision on the dictates of Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal. The protest was organized by Dal Khalsa and Akali Dal Panch Pardhani.
Dal Khalsa chief H S Dhami said that the five Takht Jathedars had succumbed to political pressures by Badals. Organisation’s spokesman Kanwarpal Singh said Akal Takht is not the name of the building but it symbolizes the Sikh principles and the concept of Miri-Piri and sovereignty.Panch Pardhani leader Harpal Singh Cheema alleged that the Akalis continue to interfere in gurdwara affairs and politics despite having dropped the Panthic agenda in 1996.SGPC member Kulbir Singh Barapind said institution of Sarbat Khalsa needs to be revived in the present context.
According to panthic observers, it might be the first such incident in Sikh history that Sikh groups have organized a protest in front Akal Takhat office.
