Protesters and shopkeepers clash in Jalandhar 

Chandigarh/Oct.19,2015- Protesters in different parts of Punjab continued protesting against the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib in different parts of Punjab, blocking key routes across the state.

Clashes took place between the shopkeepers and the protesters in Jalandhar when protesters forced the shopkeepers to shut down their shops in Mai Hira Gate and Rainak Bazaar. Both groups were pelting stones at each other. Anti-riot police was called to control the situation. Meanwhile, border district of Tarn Taran remained cut off from the rest of the state as the protesters continued to block roads. Shopkeepers staged a protest against the police for its failure in ensuring their safety.

Most of the schools and colleges remaining closed in Amritsar on Monday. Protesters continued with the blockade in and around Amritsar for the third consecutive day.

Similar reports are coming from other parts of the state including Bathinda, Talwandi Sabo and some other towns in the Malwa region.
