Protesters block Khaira’s way, rough up policemen
Ferozepur: AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira had to face the wrath of protesters during his visit to the District Administrative Complex on Monday.Khaira had gone there to meet two elderly women who have been on a hunger strike for the past few days. The women, along with their families and members of farmer outfits have been demanding action against those trying to usurp 26 acres at Jhoke Harihar village. When Khaira visited them, he was asked to meet the other group supported by the Border Sangharsh Committee, which too is staking claim to the land. When Khaira was about to leave, the other group forced him to listen to them, which led to a heated exchange. Things turned ugly when Khaira refused to talk to the group which had some Congress workers too. The latter blocked his way and even roughed up some policemen who tried to intervene.Khaira alleged that the Congress had unleashed terror in the state, adding that MLAs belonging to the ruling party were supporting the land mafia.“Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is patronising the MLAs for their wrongdoings,” Khaira said.Meanwhile, Chamkaur Singh Dhindsa, president, DCC, accused Khaira of instigating the farmers. Dhindsa said both groups were holding a peaceful protest, but Khaira fuelled the situation by ignoring the Border Sangharsh Committee. He denied that the Congress workers manhandled policemen.
