Rahul Gandhi visits police firing victims in Punjab
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday visited the families of two men killed in the October 14 police firing in Fridkot district. He spent 20 minutes in village Sarawan with family of Gurjit Singh. He assured the family to raise the issue with the President. He also visited second victim Kishan Singh’s family in village Niami Wala.
Putting a united show in Malwa region’s Akali citadel, Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by state president Partap Singh Bajwa, Capt. Amrinder Singh, Punjab Congress Legislature leader Sunil Jakhar and former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.
Punjab’s Akali leadership is obviously not happy with the visit of Rahul Gandhi to a Akali stronghold.
Some Akali leaders reacted to Rahul Gandhi’s visit, saying that Rahul should meet the President about victims of 1984 instead of worrying about two victims of police firing in Punjab.
Responding to statements of some Akali leaders, Punjab state Congress president, Partap Singh Bajwa asked CM Parkash Singh Badal what role he played during operation Blue Star. He also asked Badal how many times he visited families of riot victims in Delhi.
