Rs 5-lakh cheque given to Lance Naik Kuldeep’s kin
Bathinda: Rich tributes were paid to Lance Naik Kuldeep Singh Brar during the bhog ceremony at his native village, Koreana, near Talwandi Sabo, in the district today.Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the martyr’s family as ex gratia grant and paid homage on behalf of the state government. He promised to provide a government job to Kuldeep Singh’s kin.He also announced Rs 10 lakh to Koreana village panchayat for setting up a library in the name of the martyr.The existing government school at the village will also be named after him, he said.Manpreet also announced a gas agency and a tube-well connection for Kuldeep’s family and also stated that the education of both his children would be free.Kuldeep Singh was killed in the Keri sector along the Line of Control in Rajouri district after Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire on December 23. Bathinda DC Diprava Lakra said the Centre would give Rs 35 lakh to the martyr’s family.Meanwhile, former Akali MLA Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu gave Rs 1.5 lakh to Kuldeep’s family and the same amount was given by the martyr’s unit.AAP MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur gave the martyr’s kin Rs 50,000 that was sent by Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira.Kuldeep is survived by mother Rani Kaur, wife Jaspreet Kaur, son Rasnoor Singh (7) and daughter Damanjeet Kaur (2). His father Dhanna Singh died four years ago.Kuldeep had joined the armed forces around 12 years ago and he visited the village just five days before his death.
