Senior charged in mosque parking lot crash incident
Toronto police has charged an elderly Montreal man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in the parking lot of a Toronto mosque on Friday. A 49-year-old man was killed in the parking lot at 1015 Danforth Ave., just east of Donlands Avenue.
According to police the man was standing in the parking lot shortly before 1 p.m., when a minivan accelerated in reverse. The van struck the man, pinning him to a fence. The van then left the scene. The 49-year-old man later died in a Toronto hospital. 80-year-old Muhammad Farooki of Montreal was taken into custody later that day and was charged in the case.
Farooki has been charged with criminal negligence, dangerous operation of a vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident, all resulting in death.
