Shahabuddin sent back to Jail by Hon’ble Supreme Court on Petition moved by Prashant Bhushan seeking cancellation of his Bail.
Dreaded criminal Shahabuddin’s bail by Bihar HC was being seen as travesty of justice as Bihar Government slept over a trial to ensure that he gets bail. Shahabuddin, a murder convict, was ably supported by his own party, RJD as he was given a royal welcome on his release from jail on bail. Visuals of a procession led by MLAs and Ministers of Bihar Government made a mockery of democracy that seems to be infested with criminals and reeks of politics crime nexus.
However, it is not just the RJD that is to be questioned in this case. Shahabuddin is a classic example of how the political system, unitedly, supports and protects criminals only so they can continue with terrorizing common people. While it was a RJD Rajya Sabha member who was defending Shahabuddin in the Supreme Court, Bihar Government purposely dragged its feet in an impending trial to ensure that the dreaded criminal gets the benefit and walks out on bail. On the other hand, BJP made all the right noises, but did nothing on the CBI enquiry that was to be initiated in the murder trial.
Prashant Bhushan, Senior Advocate of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, was approached by Chandrakeshwar Prashad, father of the three boys who were brutally murdered by Shahabuddin. Earlier, the Hon’ble Supreme Court admonished the Bihar Government that sought cancellation of the Gangster-turned-Politician’s bail, saying,””Were you in slumber till he got bail?”
Prashant Bhushan stood rock-solid against the entire Political Class as he took up this case and today as the Hon’ble Supreme Court ordered that Shahabuddin be sent to jail immediately and his trial be expedited, called this a “Triumph of the rule of law”.
Swaraj Abhiyan salutes Prashant Bhushan for being the lone crusader
