Sidhu suspends four govt officials for corruption in Barnala housing project
Barnala: Punjab’s Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu suspended four government officials over allegations of corruption in construction of flats at Barnala’s Maharaja Agarsein Enclave.
The department said in a press release on Friday that an inquiry into allegations against Barnala Improvement Trust found “irregularities of grave nature” causing financial losses to the state exchequer.
The allegations pertain to construction of LIG flats in block ‘B’ of the housing scheme.
The inquiry found there were no quality checks on the project, resulting in substandard construction. Additionally, the flats were not handed over to buyers within their promised time, resulting in economic losses for them.
Assistant Trust Engineer Baljit Singh, Trust Engineer Satbhushan Sachdeva, executive officers Jatinder Singh and Jeevan Bansal have been suspended with immediate effect.
The minister has also ordered charges to be filed against the four officers, as well as a junior engineer, Ram Singh.
