SOUTH ASIAN PULSE HEADLINES : MARCH 22ND 2016 

1. The Liberals will present their first federal budget today. Investment in economy and infrastructure are thought to be the highlights. However, opposition is questioning who will pay for the huge budget deficit.
2. Two deadly blasts ripped through the Zaventem airport in Brussels killing at least 14 people. A third explosion took place at a Metro station in the heart of the Belgian capital, claiming 20 more victims. Tens of people have also been injured and about 200 flights have been diverted. Authorities have termed them terrorist attacks.
3. The Brussels attacks have been condemned by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion. Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale has denounced the attack but announced threat level in Canada is not being increased.
4. The world also has deplored these attacks. Security has been increased in France. US President Barack Obama, who is in Havana currently, has deprecated the violence adding his sympathies are with the people of Belgium.
5. Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, 46 has died.
6. An elderly woman in her seventies died in Credit River Hospital. Her car had plunged into the river.
7. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also condemned Brussels attacks. The injured included two employees of the privately-owned Indian airline Jet Airways.
8. A court has summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on July 30 for providing misleading information in his poll affidavit before 2013 elections.
9. J&K might soon have a government after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held constructive meeting with PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.
10. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has launched crop insurance scheme saying it will help the agriculture sector.
11. Union Minister MS Gill has objected on the inclusion of a commission agent in Debt Reconciliation Board.
12. Congress in Arunachal Pradesh confronted the government and later staged a walkout from the assembly.
13. Fire in Ludhiana’s Mohandai Oswal Cancer Hospital resulted in the death of a person. Three people also got injured and about 600 had to be evacuated.
14. The Jagdish Bhola drug case has been forwarded to CBI. For the last three years the case was being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate.
15. In the World T20 match New Zealand has made 180 runs against Pakistan.
