  6. Investigators from 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested three males responsible for a series of robberies. Between October 23 and December 4, seven robberies took place in the area of the Malton Community Centre, located at 3540 Morningstar Drive in the City of Mississauga. The victims of these robberies advised police that they were approached by a group of males who would make a demand for property. Some of the victims were physically assaulted and one victim reported that a stun gun, which has yet to be recovered, was used. The victims suffered minor injuries as a result of these robberies. On December 5, two young offenders from Mississauga were arrested and charged for the robberies. One male was held for a bail hearing and the other male was released on a promise to appear. On December 6th 2016 the third male young offender from Mississauga was arrested and charged for the robberies. He was held for a bail hearing.
  7. 7.      In November, 2015, the Peel Regional Police Major Drugs and Vice unit commenced an investigation into prostitution and pimping related offences involving Miguel Lewis, a 23-year-old male from Brampton.  The investigation identified two young female victims who were being controlled and influenced in the sex trade by Lewis in Peel Region and elsewhere in the GTA. Lewis was first arrested by Peel Vice Unit investigators on November 18 last year and charged with several prostitution and pimping related offences. Upon further investigation, a second young female victim was identified. On December 14, 2015, Lewis was arrested in relation to the second incident and charged with additional offences. On September 19 this year after a weeklong trial at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, Miguel Lewis was convicted of all offences in relation to both victims. On December 12, Lewis was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
  8. Peel Police seek assistance in identifying sexual assault suspect. On Tuesday, December 13 at approximately 4:30pm, police responded to a suspicious person call near Frank Harkema Park in the area of Queen Mary Drive and Kanata Road, Brampton. When officers arrived they discovered that a young female had been inappropriately touched by a male suspect after she was approached from behind while walking. The suspect is described as male, South Asian, 5’6” to 5’8”, thin build, late 20s to early 30s. At the time of the incident he was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and black jogging pants. Police believe that the suspect is responsible for approaching other females in the area. The investigation is on-going by members of the Special Victims Unit.  Anyone believing they may have had contact with the suspect is urged to contact police.

The Economic Affairs Secretary has informed that IRs500 notes are being made available and some more measures being taken but queues outside banks are not reducing. Even Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who supported Modi has said if those difficulties are not taken care of, supporting BJP government would not be possible.

  21. The Congress today announced its first list of 61 candidates for the Punjab Assembly elections, fielding 31 sitting MLAs. The party has selected seven new faces besides six women, eight ex-MLAs and one ex-MP. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Captain Amarinder Singh will contest from Patiala, while vice-president Sunil Jakhar is contesting from Abohar, from where he is the sitting MLA. Other in the fray are: Manpreet Singh Badal from Bathinda Urban and Charanjit Singh Channi from Chamkaur Sahib (SC), from where he is the sitting MLA. Another prominent name in the first list is of former Moga DC Kuldeep Singh Vaid (IAS), who has got the ticket from Gill reserved constituency. Of the six women on the list, four have been taken in from the reserved constituencies of Ferozepur Rural, Satkar Kaur; from Mehalkalan Harchand Kaur, sitting MLA; from Budhlada Ranjit Kaur Batti and from Dinanagar sitting MLA Aruna Chaudhary. The other two women in the fray are Razia Sultan from Malerkotla and Rajinder K Bhattal, sitting MLA and former chief minister, from Lehra. At 25, Angad Saini, son of sitting MLA Guriqbal Kaur Babli, is the youngest nominee in the first list.

  23. Punjab Deputy Chief Sukhbir Badal inaugurated ‘Bus Rapid Transport System’ (BRTS) in Amritsar. On this occasion, he said these buses are not like the Delhi metro buses and increase connectivity to all areas of Amritsar.

He said both Bhagwant Mann and Hemant Singh Shergill will both lose. On the issue of SYL, he said Kejriwal has been exposed and even alleged that Congress also is anti-Sikh. It has collapse at the national level and so will lose in Punjab. He said Akali Dal and BJP are moving ahead on the agenda of development and so will defeat anti-Punjab elements. Prominent amongst present on the occasion included MLAs Manoranjan Kalia, Pawan Kumar Tinnu and Gurpartap Singh Wadala, SAD leaders Seth Satpal Mal, Sarbjit Singh Makkar, Youth Akali Dal President Doaba Zone Sarbjot Singh Sabhi and advisor to Deputy Chief Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
